Meeting friends and eating out is real fun. Where there is fun and friends, how would I miss that!

It happened that I had to go to Delhi for official reasons, and I was all excited. It was not because I’m crazy about office work; it was because I had two of my best buddies there. In spite of having official guest house to stay I opted to stay with one of them. There was a big tug of war for me and finally it was decided that Ashwin would pick me from the Airport and I would stay with him.

Ashwin was my batch mate and became my best buddy after we left college. I always had a crush over his Royal Enfield, (wow what a machine…..the perfect man machine!) and always loved the drive with him.

My other friend was from church, Mathew. Mathew during his MS in Russia fell in love with a beautiful Chinese gal named Yi and they were newly wed then. Yi and Mathew even though wanted me to stay with them, but I felt stay with Ashwin would be cool as I didn’t wanna disturb the newly wed.

It was Yi’s choice that one evening we went to dine at “Memories of China”. She was very particular about treating Ashwin and me with authentic Chinese food.

As I entered the restaurant, the first thing I noticed was the beautiful decoration. The antique pieces and art work that hung on the walls. I have enjoyed food in many Chinese outlets in Chennai, but nothing as such. We decided to try out the authentic Chinese food and see what it was like. We chose the non-veg Tom Yum soup, green mango papaya salad and pumpkin curry to start with.

the pumpkin curry

The Tom Yum Soup was delicious as it is nutritious. Its spicy-delicious taste awakened our taste-buds and made a permanent mark on our food memory-bank! Well known for its many health benefits, this soup is the perfect medicine for a cold or flu bug.

The green mango papaya salad surprised us with its tastebud-awakening flavors and mix of textures. It was fresh, crisp, and wonderful-tasting. It was an excellent appetizer. The pumpkin dish was vibrant - orange, yellow, and red - together in a curry infused with citrus accents. We loved the unique taste of this dish, as well as its healthy combination of vegetables, including pumpkin, sweet potato, carrots, yellow bell pepper, and cherry tomatoes. Nasturium flowers were used for gourmet.

For the main course we ordered rice, spicy fried vegetarian noodles, hot n spicy black mushroom, chicken Szechwan, Chinese prawn curry. Yi, Mathew and Ashwin ate with chop sticks, while I went for a fork n spoon. Ashwin tried to teach me hold the chopsticks and I was successful though in eating with them, I felt more comfy with a fork n spoon.

Finally, Yi surprised us with a Jasmine Tea order. I was taken aay in the aroma of the Jasmine Tea, couldn’t stop with one cup. I had three cups. It was one of the most pleasant tasting green teas. It is made from good quality green tea leaves which were repeatedly scented with fresh jasmine flowers, allowing the tea leaves to fully absorb the fragrance and created a tea with longer-lasting taste and aroma.

finnally the tooth picks...this has tooth picks inside, the Yi said written in Chinese on it is good tidings

The food was yummyllicious, particularly the starters, then the spicy black mushroom, the prawn curry and finally the intoxicating jasmine tea. Yeah lil too much of jasmine tea is intoxicating. One should take care that there is someone to drive you back home. Thank God Ashwin was there!!

I am not a foodie, but would love to visit “Memories of China” again. They offered a good service and great value for money. Mathew paid the bill and I really don’t know what the exact amount was, I think it was roughly 2900/-.
