It was first week in college, ragging was in full swing. All my life in a gals school I was very scared to see the boys, those boys with tatooes in their arms and piercings on the face.

I always walked with Anamika. Anamika was my best friend. We travelled in the same bus to college. Anamika was surely braver than me! She had several BF’s. She was very cool and trendy. She was very nice to me. When I wanted her, she was there!

For the very first time, when I entered my college canteen, I started coughing, coz of cig smoke. The cafe was a typical smoke hub. Seeing me coughing she thought to get me a cup of water and went to bring the same.

In the mean time a guy from nowhere jumped in front of me. He went on his knees and pulled out a red rose, don’t know from where! The guy was wearing a tattered jean, a body clutching T, showing his six pack abs, piercing on his lips and brows. He was singing “Oh baby I love you!..."

In fear, I dropped the books that I was carrying. My heart was beating fast and was looking for Anamika. The guy wouldn’t allow me to move left or right. Tears started filling my eyes. Anamika appeared from nowhere like an angel, caught the guy by his T, took him to the nearest conner, and told him something. I don’t know what, and the guy fled. I didn’t see him ever after in my way.

I studied chemistry and she studied economics. She always waited for me in the gals lounge after classes. We both left home together. On our way home she would tell me tales of her BF’s. I was good with my studies and she with boys!

Two senior guys from her Department, Sid and Clement had seen us regularly together, wanted a movie date. I was a scared cat and would never accept, and those guys wouldn’t leave. There was no escape and I had to accept finally with conditions. I told Anamika that four of us will be together. No two-two pairing and moving separately. Then it was decided that four of us will go for a movie date.

Sid brought the tickets and showed me that all of us were together. I was fine with the arrangement. But somehow as the day was approaching my heart was beating faster. 10’O clock near the college gate was decided. Three of us had reached and Anamika wasn’t there! Time was going and the Sid told me, let’s go to the theatre, and we can ask her to come there. But, I wouldn’t accept.

She was not there found in the bus-stand which she usually boards from. I thought that she would have reached college, but I was disappointed to see she hadn’t. Then I called her residence and found out that she was running high temperature. Though worried for Anamika, I was happy that the date would get cancelled!

Sid and Clement looked me with a sigh. They knew persuading me for the date was the most difficult thing on earth. Sid asked me, “Lets go Sophie, Clement mebbe can pick up Anamika’s and come to the theatre”

I was silent. I was not looking at them.

Sid wouldn’t leave “please Sophie, please”

Clement continued “please da…..”

I was silent for some more minutes….

As they were almost giving up the convincing process…

I looked at them with a stern face and said
“Forget Anamika, lets go…three of us”

The guys were surprised, amazed, shocked etc. I enjoyed all the emotions that came on their face. And my first movie date was with two guys.

The next hour Sid on my left and Clement on my right we were seated in a posh theatre in Chennai, watching Mask of Zorro! After that we had a delicious lunch at a restaurant nearby! Evening we spent at Bessi….

Two days later, I was telling Anamika all the stuff!
